Spittal an der Drau is a town with 16.500 inhabitants in the North Western corner of Carinthia.
The town is located close to the Lake Millstättersee.
The most important sight of Spittal an der Drau is the castle called “Schloss Porcia” which was built in the year 1533.
Spittal was the capital of Carinthia in 1919, when the army of Yugoslavia tried to occupy the Southern region of Carinthia, including the two biggest cities of Carinthia Klagenfurt and Villach.
