Heiligenkreuz is located in the east of Lower Austria, and surrounded by the large Viennse forest in the south of Austrias capital Vienna.
1.400 inhabitants are living in Heiligenkreuz.
The village is famous for its “Stift Heiligenkreuz” monastery, which was founded in 1133.
The monastery was destroyed in 1683 by Turkish soldiers. The architect Klemens Schäfter was able to rebuild the religious house and transformed it into baroque style.
