Kaprun located at the foot of the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier, in the Western part of Salzburg.
Kaprun is one of the most important wintersports centre in Austria.
The town is also known for its giant water power plant. In 2000, it was the site of the Kaprun disaster, in which 155 skiers lost their lives in a tunnel fire.
Since the finalization of the power plant in the year 1955, Kaprun experiences a continuous upswing. By the building of the cabel railway from 1963 to 1963 in three stages to the Mount Kitzsteinhorn, Kaprun was the first place in Austria which had a cabel railway connection to a glacier area.
Kaprun has 3.000 inhabitants.
