St. Johann im Pongau

St. Johann im Pongau or St Johann/Pongau is a town in the centre of the province of Salzburg. It is the capital of the Pongau district.

On a hillside a few kilometers north of St. Johann lies the spot where Julie Andrews and crew filmed the opening shots of the “Do-Re-Mi” sequence in The Sound of Music.

St. Johann im Pongau has 11.000 inhabitants.
