Hohentauern is located in the Northern mountains of the federal state Styria.
Hohentauern is famous for the Tauernpass, which is the direct traffic connection from Austrias north to the south of Austria.
The settlement on the pass (Taurus Inferior) was first mentioned in the year 1140. Since the 12th century the Triebener Tauernpass was used as trade route.
Hohentauern is a popular holiday destination for winter and summer tourists. The village has 600 inhabitants.
