Mauthausen is a little town located in the North Eastern part of Upper Austria, directly next to the Danube river between Perg and Enns.
The name of Mauthausen comes from the word “toll”. In the 10th century the Babenberger dynasty established a toll house to cross the Danube river. Around the “toll house” a settlement developed, which received the name “Mauthausen”.
Mauthausen has 5.000 inhabitants.
